LED (Light Emitting Diodes)
LED's have already been used for many years in many industries. In the car industry, one of the examples is the
light at the back of the car's dashboard. Because they consume so little power (about 0,14Watt a piece) and have
such a long life-time of over 70,000 hours, they are perfect to use as marker lights. These are called normal LED's.
Nowadays the high power LED's are available which have more light-output and can be used to replace glowing bulbs
and halogen lights. A 1Watt power LED can replace a 5 to 10Watt halogen light but only consumes 1Watt and has a
life-time 40 times the life-time of a halogen light. Also LED's lights are not sensitive to vibrations as are the
incandescent and low voltage halogen bulbs. LED lights will save you power, maintenance and as they last for a very
long time eventually also money. High power LED's are available in all kind of colours like red, blue, yellow, etc.
They are also available in what we call COOL WHITE and WARM WHITE. The difference between cool and warm white
is that the cool white gives more light-output but are not good for the eyes. It is a very bright light with a blue tone, more like the xenon lights they use in cars.
Warm white LED's are much better for the eyes and the appearance is more like glowing bulbs and halogen lights.
Cool white LED's are good for outside use where a lot of light is required, for example - flash lights, whereas warm
white LED's are good for use indoors for ceiling lights, reading lights etc. To summarise - white LED's are functional whereas warm white are convenient.
Daniel R. Smith & Associates, Inc. has introduced a new small range of LED light fixtures and adjusted the LED's to the usage of the lights for the best possible comfort on board. The DRSA's LED lights are very easy to install as they are 12V and 10V-30V powered and don't need a LED driver. We are continually developing new LED lights which we hope to introduce to you shortly. With the above information we hope you can now understand differences between the LED's available on the market and will help you make the right choice when you decide to make your purchase.
