The Control Unit Manages All Functions With Just Four Buttons And An LCD Display.

The By-Me Marine System integrates all of the basic functions of advanced electrical and electronic control systems in a simple and effective manner.

The By-Me system is used, in residential, commercial and marine sectors, to control the electrical system (lights, roller shutters) and the heating, air-conditioning, irrigation, burglar alarm and access control systems besides technical alarm detectors for gas, water, smoke and abnormal temperature.

The system's main feature consists in using a single BUS for connecting all the system devices and three different types of control units that must be chosen according to the type of system to be made and the functions to implement.

By taking advantage of the considerable success achieved by the technology in the 2-module control unit, a new range of flush and surface mounting control units has been created that, in a single control unit, permits maximizing performance in terms of comfort, security and savings: therefore, no more single systems controlled independently from each other, but a single control unit able to integrate them together and that, besides control, configuration and supervision of the entire system, enables integration with all the functions of the video door entry system thanks to interoperablity between the Vimar flush mounting devices and the components of the Elvox Sound System and DigiBus systems.

General Features

Video Door Entry System

Flush Mounting Control Unit With Video Door Entry Function

The flush and surface mounting control units with a monitor are the brain of a single system integrating automation and burglar alarm and/or video door entry, while the flush mounting control units with 2 modules are used to create independent marine automation and burglar alarm systems with the possibility of anyhow integrating them in a single system in which the two control units coexist and communicate with each other.

With By-me Marine Vimar has made a marked step forward by offering a range of products with comprehensive functions and applications that match the styles of the Eikon, Idea and Plana series.

Surface Mounting Control Unit With Video Door Entry Function

The By-me Marine system permits making video door entry systems thanks to interoperability between the Vimar devices and the Elvox Sound System and DigiBus video door entry systems.

Thanks to the available range of control units, it will moreover be possible to integrate the video door entry system with the automation and burglar alarm system to obtain an integrated system that is controlled through a single control unit.

Example Installation With
Simple & Rocker Push Buttons

  • The Eikon, Idea, and Plana switches are available with two simple push buttons and with two rocker push buttons.
  • The simple push buttons (picture on right) are suited for step-by-step control of lights, activating scenes, etc..
  • The rocker push buttons are suited to control adjustable lights, roller blinds and scenes.

  • During the phase of installation, each functional block of any switch must be considered as if it were an independent device. At the design stage, then, it is necessary to plan the functions to create and only afterwards prepare a list of devices they must activate.

  • During installation, for example, the actuator could be used to control load A with the push button of another appliance, the left-hand button to control load B by an actuator and the right-hand button to control load C by a second actuator.
  • There are no constraints on the functional blocks of a physical device. When you need to control a load, it is necessary to have a push button with actuator connected to the load. In the case of the control appliance with two simple push buttons and actuator (Eikon 20525, Idea 16965, Plana 14525) the two functional blocks are integrated in a single switch.

    All the push buttons have a configuration button at the front and at the back there is always the BUS connection terminals. Whereas, depending on the type, there may be terminals for connecting the load.

    Push Button Switches

    The push button switches in the By-Me system are basically divided into two main categories:
  • switches with two simple push buttons, suited for step-by-step light control, activating scenes, etc.
  • switches with two rocker buttons, suited to control adjustable lights, roller blinds and scenes.

    The above devices permit controlling services with a logical connection with actuators connected to the services, except for scenes, each control appliance should be connected logically to an actuator that must be chosen according to the service to control.

    Depending on this, these two categories are their turn divided into the following types of switches:
  • simple push buttons;
  • simple push buttons and actuator;
  • rock push buttons;
  • rocker push buttons and actuator;
  • rocker push buttons and actuator for roller blinds;
  • rocker push buttons and actuator for SLAVE dimmers.

    The diversification of the type of switch to use leaves the installer the greatest freedom for the configuration placing, for example, the actuator to activate a switched socket outlet directly on the push button.

    To clarify this concept it may be useful to illustrate some basic concepts, important not only to comprehend the systems potential, but also to correctly choose the number and type of switches (thereby optimizing the work of the designer and installer).

    Both types of devices should be completed with interchangeable buttons, 1 or 2 modules, depending on the function association (single or double). There is a wide range of buttons: there are buttons with nameplates that can be written or blank ones that can be customized as requested with lettering or symbols. From the point of view of styling, integration in existing systems is total.

    The only basic difference to take into account when designing and constructing a system lies in the modular structure, since the devices take up two modules and so it is recommended to make provision for mounting boxes with 4 modules (art.V71304).

    Sound System

    The Sound System enables creating types of systems where communication between the devices and their functions is analogue.

    By connecting the Sound System 01961 video door entry module onto the LCD monitor the device creates a video door entry system that can only be used on the classic analogue tye of Elvox analogue systems or the Sound System with "8 wires" and will therefore permit reception, communication and, where applicable, display of calls from the outdoor station (Elvox Sound System or Vimar Sound System call button equipped with a video camera) and management of functions such as switching on stair lights, signalling door open, etc.

    System Composition

  • Flush Mounting Monitor 20550 with Module 01961 or surface mounting video door entry 01953 able to have images and sound interact for viewing and communicating with the person at the outdoor station.
    Equipped with 10 input and 6 output terminals, they enable communication with all the other appliances in the system.

  • Flush Mounting Speakerphones 20555 and 14555 that enable communication with the outdoor station (Elvox plate or landing call push buttons 20575 and 14575).

  • Flush Mounting Landing Call Push Buttons 20575 and 14575 that enable calling and communication to the indoor station (flush mounting monitor or surface mounting speakerphones 20555 and 14555).

  • Flush Mounting Video Cameras, available in 1- 2-module sized (art. 20560, 14560 and 20565, 14565 respectively), enable filming the subject that will then be displayed on the flush mounting monitor or on the surface mounting video door entry.

  • Indoor Light 20570 and 14570 that, installed with the video cameras, enables lighting the subject to film so that the image displayed on the flush mounting monitor or on the surface mounting video door entry is clear and sharp.

  • Power Supplies, which manage the audio and video communicatoin between the indoor and outdoor stations and integrate the lock mechanisms, call generators and the necessary power supplies towards both the pillar and the outdoor stations.
    The power supplies that can be used for installing the system are all those in the Elvox Sound System range (for more details on these devices see the Elvox technical literature).

  • Switches, which manage the audio-video signal exchange from one outdoor station to another; the devices that can be used are all those in the Elvox Sound System range (for more details on these devices see the Elvox technical literature).

  • Speakerphone module for pillar, called "rocker", necessary in all systems that also use the audio door entry module 20555 or 14555.

  • Plates, understood as audio or audio-video devices that permit identifying the subject requesting access to the dwelling; the Elvox range offers various types of plates that can be used in a Sound System installation (for all the technical details, please refer to the dedicated Elvox literature).

  • Elvox Sound System surface mounting audio and video door entry installations that can be used with Vimar appliances in all installations where it is not possible to use flush mounting devices (for all the technical details, please refer to the dedicated Elvox literature).

    Functions and Applications

    The main functions that can be accompished thanks to the Sound System are the following:

  • Call Answering When a call is made from an outdoor station (external plate or landing call push button), the video door entry unit emits an audible warning and the LCD monitor lights up to display the person calling.
    The audio communication is made by keeping the speakerphone button of the video door entry unit pressed throughout the conversation.

  • Self-Start This function is used to activate audio/video communication on the outdoor station without a call being received; this function is useful, for example, to check the area outside the dwelling.

  • Confidential Conversation This function is used to communicate with the outdoor station only if a call has arrived or there has been a self-start. It is not possible to listen to other communications in progress or self-start while a conversation is in progress.

  • "Door Open" Signal This function is used to display a LED signal on the video door entry indicating that the door or gate is open.

  • Lock Control This control activates the lock opening relay of the door or gate providing access to the dwelling.

  • Stairs Light Control With this control it is possible to activate the output used to control an appropriate external relay connected to one or more lamps to switch on.

  • Auxillary Function This control can be used to activate external devices or servies such as, for instance, courtesy lights, automation, etc.; to use this function you need to install a suitable external relay.

  • Outside Call Via the wiring of the dedicated terminal in the video door entry it is possible to differentiate the sound of a call from the outside button (for example, landing, secondary entrance, etc.) to distinguish it from a call from the outdoor station.

  • Supplementary Bells It is necessary to transmit the call warning to different points of the system (for example, very large dwellings), it is possible to install external bell repeaters.
    All these functions are enabled with the wiring on the dedicated terminals of the video door entry and with very simple configuration operations to perform using the front keys on the device.

    DigiBus

    The DigiBus enables creating types of systems where device and control identification is digital.

    Depending on the system configuration, each of the connected devices has a numerical code with 4 or 8 digits and is able to receive and send the data that contain all the information relating to communication management.

    All the typical control operations of a video door entry system such as, for instance, call, electric lock opening, etc., are therefore coded. Whereas, the sound for voice communication and video signal to see the images are signals that remain analogue.
    To create a DigiBus System the following components are used:
    Click Here

    For the DigiBus system, too, in reality there are different installation topologies for making systems; the type of each system depends, in this case too, on the structure, the number of indoor and outdoor stations you want to install and on the functions to enable.

    Similarly to the Sound System, the diagrams and therefore the most frequent architecture are typically where there are one of more outdoor call stations and one or more indoor response stations; the diagram with a single outdoor station uses a single power supply per pillar while the installation of more than one outdoor station, in addition to one power supply per pillar, has audio-video signal realy modules.

    The digrams then differ according to the functions and services required (connection of a number of video door entry units in parallel, etc.) for which specific supplementary modules must be added (for example video distributors, supplementary power supplies, etc.).

    The architecture of the DigiBus system requires the "4 wire" connection for the audio function and "4 wires" for the video function. The call wire on the pillar side for each single indoor station is no longer necessary since, on the contrary to the Sound System that needs the return wire for the calls, the DigiBus system uses a digital type of data transmission.

    The communication protocol used by the DigiBus system is proprietary Elvox and is "serial-similar" with active level at 12 V d.c. and communication input on the digital line of 25mA; the standard speed (600 b/s) enables reaching distances on the digital BUS of a few kilometers.

    The DigiBus system permits digital coding of the devices and commands that are sent or that come from the external plate; the latter can be considered as the "master" device (main appliance managing communication between the digital devices in the system), while every other single digital device can be considered as a "slave" (secondary appliance that is piloted/controlled by the master).

    The external plate is therefore:

  • the "brain" of the entire system;
  • essential for the operation of the entire system and, as a result, it must always be installed.

    The video door entry units are identified in the system with a numerical code with 4 or 8 digits that must be set on the plate. All the programming parameters such as, for instance, the call time, type of bell, electric lock opening, code numbers of the indoor stations, etc. are set and stored in the main external plate.

    Access Control System

    Scope
    The range of products is used, in marine and residential/commercial, to create secure, reliable and flexible access control and circuit management systems.
    Available for the Eikon, Idea and Plana series, the systems offers several technical solutions and various levels of complexity so as to ensure the right solution for any type of need.

    BUS Access Control With Transponder
    This installation uses a transponder card or key reader of the size of 2 modules. The transponder cards and keys offer total security and reliability, each one contains a different code chosen from 1000 billion possible combinations and they operate without a battery, so they have an unlimited operating life and are maintenance-free.
    The code is transmitted by setting the transponder key or card into contact with the connector that, if it recognizes it, sends it to the actuator module to switch over the relay.

    Access control with smard card
    reader/programmer with built-in relay

    This is the standard solution, the simplest one. It is composed of a smart card reader/programmer of the size of 3 modules; it also performs the function of actuator via the relay. The cards are programmed and the device configured using dip switches fitted on the back of the appliance. The output relay is activated upon recognition of the previously saved smart card. If using the reader/programmer in a hotel situation, a suitable combination of the dip switches permits simplifying some functions so as to make it easier to use the device in this context.

    Wiring Diagram with transponder reader

    Another type of configuration of the device called "intelligent switch" enables making a secure circuit control system. The output relay stays switched as long as the previously programmed smart card stays inserted in the reader/programmer.

    Activating Circuits

    Circuits can be activated cost-effectively also by means of the electronic badge switch. Inserting an ISO card into the reader (it may also be, but not only, the one used to access the room) causes the output relay to switch over, suited for controlling loads of up to 16 A 250 V~
